snacks attack

This pair up application is designed to track children what they eat in a day, their consumption behavior, and tips on what to do with the issues.

the Goal

Elementary students that lives in Bangkok from middle-income families consume less fats and sugars.

the problem

Schoolchildren are found to be more overweight than smaller children because food can be bought for themselves by those in and alongside the schools' gate.

Weight problems and obesity among children are considered two of the largest healthcare conundrums in the world. A recently published report indicating that obesity among children is widespread and left unattended could potentially lead Thailand to miss its aim of improving nutrition and achieving food security by 2030.

Food consumption and lack of physical activity are two major contributing factors to obesity among Thai children. These days, food, snacks and sugary drinks — high in calories, fat and sugar — are more readily accessible. Fueled by a lack of physical activity and exercise, the problem can accelerate from bad to worse.

Being overweight does not only impact the appearance of a child. Such chronic disorders, including diabetes, kidney and liver disorders, heart diseases, high blood pressure , diabetes, snoring, sleep apnoea, deterioration of the knee and distortion of the leg, may be followed.

the design

The prototype is an application that aims to tackle this problem. Since it pairs up parents with the children, children can spend money on their application by scan the QR code. Their parents will transfer the money.

Before paying for something, the children must choose what they will have, take the picture, and then pay by transfer money online. This way, parents can track what their kids have outside the house, see their health performance, and provide tips to tackle their health issues (if have ones) after analyzing the children's' data.

did you notice?

Modern kids have more sedentary activities. Phones and tablets steal much of their time, which could be spent on physical activity otherwise. This kind of situation occurs not only among children in the city, but also among those in rural areas.

Food is very loaded in fat and sugar nowadays. The taste of food has become so rich, full of fat and butter, but lacking in fiber. Carbonated soft drinks can be conveniently bought by children from convenience stores that are very high in sugar. They eat this kind of food and enjoy their comfortable lives, walking less because of better transportation, for example. They're all sitting and wasting time on their tablets. They eat more, generally, but exercise less.
